Caudal is the Hox gene that specifies the most posterior Drosophile segment

Article Abstract:

The maternal embryonic function of the homeobox gene caudal (cad) establishes the antero-posterior body axis of Drosophila. The developmental role of cad in adult Drosophila is reported. It is needed for normal development of analia structures which developed like the immediately anterior segment. Cad is also found to induce ectopic analia development if expressed in the head or wing, suggesting that it is the Hox gene determining the development of the fly's most posterior segment.

Many vessels, faulty gene

Article Abstract:

Hereditary cancer syndromes can provide knowledge about the molecular circuits that are key to the life of a cancer cell. Reports have provided insights into how the von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) gene regulates angiogenesis. The crystal structure of pVHL bound to elongins B and C has been solved, and similarities to yeast SCF complexes have been found. pVHL was also found to co-purify with the Rbx1 or ROC1 protein, providing further evidence of its involvement in ubiquitination.
