Channel plasmon subwavelength waveguide components including interferometers and ring resonators

Article Abstract:

The design, fabrication and characterization of channel plasmon polaritons (CPP)-based subwavelength waveguide components operating at telecom wavelengths, namely Y-splitters, Mach-Zehoder interferometers and waveguide-ring resonators are reported. CPP guides can be used for large-angle bending and splitting of radiation, thereby enabling the realization of ultracompact plasmonic components and paving the way for a new class of integrated optical circuits.

Energy transfer under control

Article Abstract:

Life on Earth is sustained by photosynthesis which uses the process known as excitation-energy transfer. The adoption of the energy-transfer process in optoelectronics is an attractive concept. Hopmeier and colleagues suggest that the interaction of light and matter could be controlled by manipulating the local optical environment. Energy transfer from a light-emitting polymer to an organic dye was studied.
