Identification of the Nogo inhibitor of axon regeneration as a Reticulon protein

Article Abstract:

Many classes of central nervous system (CNS) axons extend for long distances in peripheral nerve grafts. Myelin from the CNS and peripheral nervous system (PNS) were compared, and it was found that CNS white matter selectively inhibits axonal outgrowth. Nogo is identified as a member of the Reticulon family, Reticulon 4-A, and is expressed by oligodendrocytes, associated mainly with the endoplasmic reticulum.

Collapsin-induced growth cone collapse mediated by an intracellular protein related to UNC-33

Article Abstract:

A collapsin response mediator protein (CRMP-62) is an UNC-33 related intracellular protein that appears to mediate collapsin-induced growth cone collapse. A Xenopus laevis oocyte expression system was used to explore the mechanism of collapsin action and signalling. CRMP-62 may mediate between collapsin and a G-protein, activating the protein to collapse the growth cones. This evidence supports the involvement of heterotrimeric GTP-binding proteins.
