Conflicts undermine global forum's push for safe water

Article Abstract:

The organizers of the third world water forum in Japan are of the view that they succeeded in translating a vision for solving the global problems of water supply into action. It is held that community-level public participation is fundamental to achieving the goals of the forum and that the common basic requirement for water is an opportunity for cooperation and peace.

World maps depict areas of the world with access to safe water, the percentage of diseases caused by unsafe water supplies, and regions of the world experiencing tensions related to declining water supplies. Pie charts depict areas of the world forecast to experience difficulties with sufficient clean water supplies for their populations in 2025 vs 2000.
