Correlates of population recovery goals in endangered birds

Article Abstract:

The variation in population recovery goals for bird species listed under the U.S. Endangered Species Act is studied to find out whether there were simple predictors of recovery population size. Results reveal that variables relating to the circumstances under which the populations are listed and the recovery plans written can explain almost all of the variance in recovery population goals, and that biological traits of the endangered birds explained little of the variance.

Using population viability analysis to develop recovery criteria for endangered insects: case study of the Fender's blue butterfly

Article Abstract:

A simple diffusion-approximation method is used to calculate extinction risk for the Fender's blue butterfly, recently listed under the US Endangered Species Act. The method is applied to 12 sites using eight years' worth of data; only one population showed a high persistence likelihood.
