Countryside biogeography of neotropical mammals: conservation opportunities in agricultural landscapes of Costa Rica

Article Abstract:

Mammal populations were evaluated in five Costa Rica habitats: pasture, forest, coffee plantation, pasture with adjacent remnant of forest, and coffee plantation with adjacent remnant of forest. Pasture with adjacent forest remnant was found to be species poor, with several species locally extinct. Implications for land management in mammal conservation efforts are discussed.

The use of Bayesian model averaging to better represent uncertainty in ecological models

Article Abstract:

Evidence indicates that Bayesian model averaging is a simple and effective means of including model-selection uncertainty in statistical prediction and inference, making it a useful tool in nature conservation planning. The method is applied to an arboreal marsupial population in Australia.

Structure and Operation of a Bushmeat Commodity Chain in Southwestern Ghana

Article Abstract:

Findings show no single optimal entry point for conservation intervention in the Ghana bushmeat commodity chain; recommendations are made for a multiactor approach that includes all actor groups involved in the bushmeat trade.
