Criteria for science in the courts

Article Abstract:

A case filed in the Supreme Court against Marion Merrell Dow, manufacturer of the morning sickness drug Bendectin, may prompt a rethinking of the criteria for admissibility of scientific evidence in courts of law. Bendectin has been the subject of many suits claiming that it is a teratogen which causes limb deformities in newborn babies. Marion Merrell Dow has consistently won these suits on the basis of evidence presented by scientific experts. It was suggested that for scientific evidence to be admitted, it should be tested and that the methodology of testing must be sound.

A gastrin-releasing peptide receptor mediates the itch sensation in the spinal cord

Article Abstract:

The gastrin-releasing peptide receptor (GRPR) has played a vital role in mediating itch sensation in the dorsal spinal cord. The studies have indicated that GRPR might represent the first molecule that is dedicated to mediating the itch sensation in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord, thus providing a central therapeutic target for antipruritic drug development.
