Crystal structure of plant photosystem I

Article Abstract:

The crystal structure of the complete photosystem I (PSI) from a higher plant to 4.4 Armstrong resolution is determined. The structure provides a framework for exploration not only of energy and electron transfer but also of the evolutionary forces that shaped the photosynthetic apparatus of terrestrial plants after the divergence of chloroplasts from marine cyanobacteria one billion years ago.

An atypical haem in the cytochrome b(sub)6f complex

Article Abstract:

Research describes structure-function of cytochrome b(sub)6f complex, which shuttles electrons between photosystems, facilitates proton transport, and powers the Q-cycle in the photosynthetic process. The crystal structure of b(sub)6f from Chlamydomonas reinhardtii displays binding sites for chlorophyll and beta-carotene and an atypical haem sharing a quinone site.

The native architecture of a photosynthetic membrane

Article Abstract:

The native architecture of a photosynthetic membrane is revealed using the atomic force microscopy (AFM). Results indicate that the two-dimensional architecture of the photosynthetic membrane performs a robust energy transfer function and is capable of fast and efficient transfer and trapping of energy.
