Culture clash tarnishes the image of star laboratory

Article Abstract:

The promising scientific reputation of Germany's recently established Institute for Molecular Biology (IMB) is in jeopardy because of the intensifying conflict between scientists and administrators. Scientists have been complaining about management's repressiveness and lack of support. The conflict has led to the resignation of Nobel laureate Manfred Eigen, the lone scientist on the IMB decision-making supervisory board. Scientists who had resigned earlier include scientific council head Rudolf Rigler and evolutionary biology research head Peter Schuster.
