Curbs on B6 highlight dietary dilemmas

Article Abstract:

Nearly 100 British parliament members are opposed to plans to limit over-the-counter sales of vitamin B6. The proposed legislation is due to safety grounds as it is known that high doses of the vitamin can cause nerve damage. However there is controversy over what is a safe dose and those opposed to the legislation dispute the its scientific basis.

Uphill struggle

Article Abstract:

SmithKline Beecham had to withdraw its vaccine LYMErix, antibiotic against Lyme disease, from the US markets shortly after the vaccine recipient claimed that they had fallen victim to side effects, including autoimmunity. Although no link was found between LYMErix and an autoimmune response, some researchers are taking a precautionary stance.

The pharmaceutical company Roche had expanded huge commercial expectations for its influenza drug named Tamiflu in 1999. The expansion in its Tamiflu production capacity was as the developed countries are stockpiling the drug against the threat of pandemic flu virus that could arise at any time and drugs would be the first line of defense.
