DNA antisense therapy for asthma in an animal model

Article Abstract:

The dust-mite conditioned allergic rabbit model of human asthma is subjected to a randomized crossover study. An aeosolized phosphorothioate antisense oligodeoxynucleotide targeting the adenosine A1 receptor is administered to desensitize the animals. The aerosolized A1AS reached the airway smooth muscle, did not affect the adenosine A2 or bradykinin B2 receptors and reduced adenosine A1 receptor quantity in the airway smooth muscle.

Blocking adenosine with antisense

Article Abstract:

The influence of adenosine in an animal model of allergic asthma has been confirmed. Researchers used antisense oligodeoxynucleotides (ODN) to reduce the number of adenosine A1 receptors in the lung. The subsequent decrease in the constriction of airways shows that the adenosine A1 receptor has potential for allergic asthma therapy. ODN-mediated control of gene expression is also shown to have potential in treating a common disease.

Entrepreneur contests spark innovation and provide a practice run for start-ups

Article Abstract:

The device called Inhalers developed by the medical students of the Imperial College at London for the asthma patients is discussed. The inhaler snaps on any inhaler, improves drug delivery, monitors the severity of the disease, and alerts the patient if they need medical attention.
