Deeper into the genome

Article Abstract:

The direct way of discovering disease-causing genes is 'medical resequencing' (MRS), where the key parts of suspect genes are sequenced and compared between patients and controls to identify genetic variations that might contribute to disease. Such large-scale projects favor a centralized effort to decipher the human genome, where MRS activities should be accelerated, and the goal should be to discover genetic variation in the general population that can potentially affect gene function directly.

Superspreading and the effect of individual variation on disease emergence

Article Abstract:

An integrated theoretical and statistical analysis is presented of the influence of individual variation in infectiousness on disease emergence is presented. It is indicated that superspreading is a normal feature of spread of disease.
