Functional recovery in parkinsonian monkeys treated with GDNF

Article Abstract:

Rhesus monkeys treated with glial-cell-line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) intracerebrally exhibit significant improvement in symptoms of parkinsonism such as rigidity, bradykinesia and postural instability. In animals treated with GDNF, dopamine levels in the globus pallidus and midbrain are twice as high and nigral dopamine neurons are 20% larger. GDNF effectively diffuse into the brain parenchyma and target cells. GDNF, injected every four weeks, maintains functional recovery.

The LIM homeobox gene Lhx9 is essential formouse gonad formation

Article Abstract:

Transcripts of the LIM hoemobox gene Lhx9 are found to occur in urogential ridges of mice at embryonic day 9.5, later localizing to the interstitial region. Germ cells in mice lacking Lxh9 function migrate normally, but somatic cells of the genital ridge doe not proliferate. It is likely that LXH9 mutations could underlie some forms of isolate gonadal agenesis in humans.
