Diplomatic incident

Article Abstract:

A controversy regarding the identification of human remains of a kidnapped Japanese, handed over by North Korea to Japan is proving to be a diplomatic embarrassment for Japan. Japan's earlier refusal to accept the credibility of the identification by North Korea, through a DNA test, is said to be inconclusive by the scientist who had conducted the DNA test, leading to a situation in which Japan has to reveal whether the DNA test conducted was conclusive or not.

Effective determination of downstream signaling events using vector-based RNA interference technologies with modification state-specific antibodies

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine the role of Raf1 in the activation of its potential downstream effectors Erk1/2 and Rsk1. It shows that the vector-based shRNA, pKD-Raf1-v6, was very effective at silencing the Raf1 gene and the targeted Raf1 reduction by pKD-Raf1-V6 prevented the arsenite and EGF activation of Raf1 downstream effectors Erk1/2 and Rsk1 through the use of phosphorylation specific antibodies.

Japan's research conduct

Article Abstract:

Researchers in Japan are frustrated in their attempts to reproduce a set of RNA interference papers co-authored by Kazunari Taira, a biochemist at the University of Tokyo. The university is considered to be the country's largest and most prestigious research institution but they lack the infrastructure to carry out investigation on scientific misconduct.
