Dissociable stages of human memory consolidation and reconsolidation

Article Abstract:

The term 'memory consolidation' is a process, where the memory becomes increasingly resistant to interference from competing or disrupting factors. Unique contributions of wake and sleep in the development of different forms of consolidation are discussed.

Fear memories require protein synthesis in the amygdala for reconsolidation after retrieval

Article Abstract:

Research into the protein synthesis required for reactivating fear memory is presented. It is shown that reactivated fear memories return to a labile state requiring de novo protein synthesis for reconsolidation after retrieval.

Memory research which is undergoing a transformation, reveals that it weakens during the day and strengthens by a period of sleep. Effects of sleep on memory performance are presented.
