Does reduced social contact affect discrimination of distance cues and individual vocalizations?

Article Abstract:

Songbirds are studied to examine the effect of reduced experience with conspecific vocalizations during development on discrimination of distance cues and discrimination between individual vocalizations. It is concluded that discrimination of distance cues is an innate skill while discrimination between many individual vocalizations is helped by early experience with conspecific vocalizations.

Reduced social contact causes auditory perceptial deficits in zebra finches, Taeniopygia guttata

Article Abstract:

Zebra finches are raised separately from their father, and from all family; and tested for their ability to perceive absolute pitch, relative pitch, and song notes. Birds reared away from family performed poorly compared to those reared with their family.
