Does survey method bias the description of northern goshawk nest-site structure?

Article Abstract:

A systematic survey method was used to compare forest vegetation around northern goshawk nests with nests found opportunistically in eastern Oregon. Northern goshawks nested in a variety of forest cover types with a wide range of structural characteristics. Both the density of large trees and canopy closure around the nests were similar. Results suggested the value of systematic survey methods in determining representative habitat descriptions for northern goshawks.

Dawn and morning goshawk courtship vocalizations as a method for detecting nest sites

Article Abstract:

A new method for detecting nest sites of the endangered northern goshawk is presented. The study, conducted in a wooded are of Burgundy, France, uses goshawk courtship vocalizations as a method for detecting nest sites. To achieve maximum effect, listening sessions for goshawk vocalizations should take place in the three months before egg laying and at dawn.
