Are fast-moving elephants really running?
Article Abstract:
Video analysis of Asian elephants in Thailand show that while their gait kinetics resemble walking even when they are traveling at 25 km/hr, there are indications that the hindquarters are in running motion, while the front legs remain in a fast-walking mode. Questions remain as to why and how the elephants avoid the aerial phase of a running gait.

The origin of avian flight is studied through the unique quality possessed by birds, which enables them to climb vertical surfaces using their wingbeats. The behaviour wing-assisted incline running(WAIR) was dubbed by Terry Dial, which became basis for other research.
