Non-random coextinctions in phylogenetically structured mutualistic networks

Article Abstract:

Phylogenetic methods were used to show that the phylogenetic relationships of species predict the number of interaction they exhibit in more than one-third of the networks, and the identity of the species with which they interact. Due to the phylogenetic effects on the interaction patterns, simulated extinction events tend to trigger coextinction cascade of related species.

The effects of competition and predation on diversification in a model adaptive radiation

Article Abstract:

The way in which predation by a protist, Tetrahymena thermophila affects diversification in a model adaptive radiation of bacterial prey, Pseudomonas fluorescens is indicated. Results suggest that predation may play an under-appreciated role in driving adaptive radiation.
