Ecotourism's support of biodiversity conservation

Article Abstract:

Ecotourism is considered an effective tool for promoting the conservation of endangered species and habitats in developing countries. It creates economic incentives for poor villages to encourage local guardianship of species and biological resources. Researches assessed ecotourism's effect on the income of villagers that live near Royal Chitwan National Park, Nepal. They surveyed 996 households and found that economic incentives were minimal and benefited only those families that lived closest to the park's entrance.

An ecology-based method for defining priorities for large mammal conservation: the tiger as case study

Article Abstract:

Decline in tropic tiger populations and prey may suggest ongoing global extinction, largely through poaching and loss of habitat. A study accounted for genetic, behavioral, demographic and ecological factors for each tiger population studied, including 159 conservation units on three bioregions. Significant conservation efforts require stopping poaching, increasing protected areas, and such areas must be linked and buffered by natural habitats.

The giant Pandas of the Qinling Mountains, China: A case study in designing conservation landscapes for elevational migrants

Article Abstract:

The focus of the study is the Qinling Mountains in Shaanxi Province, which is refuge to approximately 220 pandas. Landscape-scale conservation and the development of giant panda conservation units that are proposed provide numerous benefits that site-based methods cannot confer.
