Effect of population demographics and social pressures on white-tailed deer dispersal ecology

Article Abstract:

A post quality deer management (QDM) research at Chesapeake Farms Maryland, USA, on white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) dispersal was done to compare the pre- and post- QDM emigration, immigration, survival, and behaviors of yearling males, assess inbreeding avoidance and sexual competition and assess the maternal aggression. It was found that the older male deer might have suppressed breeding competition in yearling males and reduced dispersal rates, increasing site-specific management efficiency.

Swainson's warbler habitat selection in a managed bottomland hardwood forest

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to determine what environmental factors are related to Swainson's warbler habitat use at different spatial scales and in different bottomland hardwood forest management scenarios. The findings demonstrated that Swainson's warblers could successfully breed in a forest that is intensely managed for timber and pulp products.
