Effects of local habitat characteristics and landscape context on grassland butterfly diversity

Article Abstract:

The butterfly community diversity is studied in four types of grassland habitats surrounded by varying amounts of urban development near Boulder, Colorado to understand the importance of local and regional habitat characteristics. The importance of maintaining high-quality grassland habitat to protect native butterfly diversity is emphasized.

A survey and overview of habitat fragmentation experiments

Article Abstract:

The results from a literature survey to identify the experimental studies of terrestrial habitat fragmentation are presented. The comparisons showed a remarkable lack of consistency in results across studies, especially with regard to species richness and abundance relative to fragment size.

Connectivity in an Agricultural Landscape as Reflected by Interpond Movements of a Freshwater Turtle

Article Abstract:

Research on populations of Chrysemys picta in northern Virginia indicates that connectivity is key to species persistence. The roles of habitat selection and habitat quality are also discussed.
