State-dependent receptive-field restructuring in the visual cortex

Article Abstract:

The visual system extracts important information from the environment by dynamic control of visual resolution. The structure of receptive fields alters in different contexts. It is shown that receptive fields in the primary visual cortex goes through significant changes under anaesthetic. Receptive fields were wider in synchronized states, and the cortical receptive fields shrunk over time following stimulation with flashing light spots.

Two networks of electrically coupled inhibitory neurons in neocortex

Article Abstract:

Two functionally distinct inhibitory networks consisting of fast-spiking (FS) or low-threshold spiking (LTS) neurons are described. Inhibitory neurons of the same type were strongly linked by electrical synapses, although electrical synapses between different inhibitory cell types were rare.
