Endurance running and the evolution of Homo

Article Abstract:

An assessment on how well humans perform at sustained long-distance running, and a review of the physiological and anatomical bases of endurance running capabilities in humans and other mammals are discussed. Judged by several criteria, humans perform remarkably well at endurance running, due to a diverse array of features, many of which leave traces in the skeleton.

Fetal load and the evolution of lumbar lordosis in bipedal hominins

Article Abstract:

The evolution and the impact on the fetal load of the lumbar lordosis in bipedal hominins are discussed. The analysis shows that lumbar lordosis helps the pregnant women to mitigate the forces generated by fetal load.
