Environmental enrichment improves mating success in fruit flies

Article Abstract:

The environmental enrichment, defined as housing conditions that include a combination of complex inanimate and social stimulation, has strong positive effects on brain and behavior in various species. It was seen that male fruit flies, Drosophila melanogaster, reared in an enriched environment were twice as successful in acquiring mates, as were males from standard rearing conditions.

Experience improves courtship in male fruit flies

Article Abstract:

A test is conducted to know whether learning improves male courtship, relying on the knowledge that male fruit flies learn in the context of courtship. The results indicate that courting experience permits male fruit flies to refine their courtship behaviour in a way that could increase their mating success.
