Essential flexibility in the T-cell recognition of antigen

Article Abstract:

An important part of the development of T cells is their capacity to respond productively to suboptimal ligands. T cells recognize an antigen on the surface of antigen presenting cell but the recognition of altered ligands causes partial activation. The response of the T-cell depends upon the ligand being recognized and the recognition helps in the generation of anticipatory immune systems. Small modifications within the peptide-MHC ligand results in partial T-cell activation, leading to both beneficial and harmful outcomes.

Dual personality of memory T cells

Article Abstract:

It has been established that the chemokine receptor CCR7, a newly discovered cell-surface marker, is capable of distinguishing between two subsets of T cells that carry immunological memory. These two subsets appear to circulate around the body by different pathways, with the memory response being mediated in different ways. It is suggested that the naive T cell differentiates to a central memory T cell and, finally, to an effector memory cell.

T cells and tumours

Article Abstract:

Issues are presented concerning the different response of the immune system to tumours which occur a different locations of the body. The response of the immune system to cancerous cells is discussed.
