It works in Kladno

Article Abstract:

The City of Kladno, the Czech Republic, received a state subsidy of 22.7 mil Kc for the investment preparation of an industrial zone in 1998. The city invested 16.7 mil Kc. Energie (Kladno, Czech Republic) completed the preparation of a territory with an area of 25 ha for the zone in September 1998. Showa Aluminium (Japan) has become the first renter in the zone. The company ensured 300 jobs in the zone by an investment of 27.8 mil USD. Another four companies have started their investments in the industrial zone in Kladno. Sagem (France) ensured 1,400 jobs by an investment of 15 mil USD, Transita 100 jobs by an investment of 3 mil USD and Barco 15 jobs by an investment of 2 mil USD. Blanco has not reported the level of its investment in the zone. The total investments of 39.5 mil Kc from public sources, municipal and state budgets in the zone ensured an opportunity for private investments of at least 48 mil USD, 1.4 bil Kc, and enabled the setting up of nearly 2,000 jobs.

Battle plans withstand Mississippi onslaught

Article Abstract:

The citizens of Davenport, IA, took concerted steps such as timely evacuation of people and built flood wall along the inner ring of the city to avoid large scale damages during the seasonal floods in 1993. The local, state and federal agencies coordinated to ensure the effective flow of funds to protect Davenport's civil systems and help was sought from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Explanatory tyranny

Article Abstract:

In archaeology, as in most disciplines, explanations are almost never simple, and if they are, it could be because there is something missing. The pressure placed on scientists, both outside science and within it, to simplify in order to explain, is essentially reducing the intellectual content of the explanation.
