Extreme TB strain threatens HIV victims worldwide

Article Abstract:

The outbreak of virulent and very drug-resistance tuberculosis in South Africans with HIV is horrifying health professionals and prompting the usually slow-and-steady field of tuberculosis medicine into emergency action. The new strain, called extreme drug-resistant tuberculosis (XRD TB), is virtually untreatable and neither the standard drugs not at least three of the six classes of more toxic and less-effective backup drugs are effective.

Inadequate warning system left Asia at the mercy of tsunami

Article Abstract:

The absence of monitoring equipment in the Indian Ocean left many places of Southeast Asia under tsunami devastation. The tsunami researchers on this issue say that in order to predict a tsunami with any useful time advantage, data on small changes in sea level and pressure have to be collected directly from the floor and surface of the ocean.
