Final listing rules approved for 21 species during July/October 1992

Article Abstract:

The Fish and Wildlife Service included 20 plant species and a bird species in the list of endangered or threatened species protected by the Endangered Species Act between Jul and Oct 1992. The plant species include sixteen from Hawaii, the Alabama streak-sorus fern, the American chaffseed, the Smoot Coneflower andthe Lousiana Quillwort. The only animal included in the final listing rules wasthe Marbled Murrelet, whose numbers have declined due to habitat loss, gill-netfishing and oil spills.

Fifty-six animals and plants proposed in August-October 1991 for Endangered Species Act protection

Article Abstract:

The Fish and Wildlife Service proposed the inclusion of 7 animals and 49 plants in the list of endangered or threatened species protected under the Endangered Species Act. Among the animals are the coastal California gnatcher, the Delta smelt, the Goliath frog and four butterfly species. Among the plants being studied for inclusion are 16 species from Moloka'i and Kaua'i,HI, seven from the California coast, and three other plants found in the US.

Fifty-six species added to list of threatened and endangered species in August-October 1991

Article Abstract:

The Fish and Wildlife Service added 11 animals and 45 plants to the list of endangered or threatened species protected by the Endangered Species Act. Included in the Federal Register were the razorback sucker, gulf sturgeon, Ouachita rock-pocketbook, two snails from New Mexico and six foreign reptiles. The endagered plants, on the other hand, were mostly of Hawaiian origin, exceptfor five North American species.
