Dependence of the spectral evolution of gamma-ray bursts on their photon fluence

Article Abstract:

The photon energy at which the power output is the highest for well resolved energy pulses that make up gamma-ray bursts decreases exponentially with photon fluence. The exponential decay constant is unchanged for pulses in many multi-pulse bursts, showing that the pulses possess the same number of emitting particles. This indicates that the pulses arise from one-burst source instead of a single catastrophic event, and that the plasma is confined.

An exceptionally bright flare from SGR 1806-20 and the origins of short-duration gamma-ray bursts

Article Abstract:

A report on the detection of a long (380s) giant flare from soft-gamma repeater (SGR) 1806-20, which was much more luminous than any transient event observed in the Galaxy is presented. SGR are galactic X-ray stars that emit numerous short-duration bursts of hard X-ray during sporadic active periods.
