Habitat selection by Swainson's warblers breeding in loblolly pine plantations in Southeastern Louisiana

Article Abstract:

Mist nets and point counts from 1998-1000 are used to survey intensively managed even-age loblolly pine (P.taeda) plantations of different age classes and management histories to determine breeding status and stand structure preferences of Swainson's warbler in southeastern Louisiana, USA. Results show that Swainson's warblers were found in pine stands that had well-developed canopy closure, abundant understory vegetation, and sparse live ground cover.

Fix success and accuracy of global positioning system collars in old-growth temperature coniferous forests

Article Abstract:

The evaluation of the efficacy of models developed to mitigate data omission biases in global positioning systems (GPS) telemetry studies of black bears in Olympic National Park, Washington, U.S., showed significant limitations in accounting for data loss and error, hence resource selection patterns of large mammals derived from GPS telemetry should be interpreted more carefully.
