Has the ESA killed good land stewardship on America's farms and ranches?

Article Abstract:

Land stewardship by farmers and ranchers includes not only maintainable but also improvement of wildlife habitat on their land which has been unaffected by the implementation of Endangered Species Act. Good land stewardship, needed for long-term advantages in farming operations, involves maintaining the wildlife diversity on the farm land. Providing motivation to private landowners to conserve listed species in their habitat must also be accompanied by initiatives to decrease unnecessary restrictions.

Rediscovering the land ethic

Article Abstract:

Leading conservationist Aldo Leopold presented the ideology of a modern Land Ethic in 1933 focussing, on ways to preserve ecological resources. Leopold stressed the significance of natural diversity, and the deforestation of Germany led to his concern for American forests. His strategies stressed the dynamic nature of ecosystems and called for screening the resources for necessary changes, the establishment of explicit goals and making the public more involved in the process.
