Hyperactive antifreeze protein in a fish

Article Abstract:

The fishes in the polar ocean for their survival use the 'antifreeze' plasma proteins in the blood, which binds to the ice crystal and prevent them from growing. An antifreeze protein found in winter flounder that is extremely active and explains the resistance of this fish to freeing in polar and subpolar waters is described.

Evidence that sensory traps can evolve into honest signals

Article Abstract:

Conventional modes explaining extreme sexual ornaments propose that reflect male genetic quantity or arbitrary results of genetic linkage between female preference and the ornament. Elaboration of male signals is expected if females increase their response threshold to resist exploitation.

The how and why of biodiversity
