Identification of human brain tumor initiating cells

Article Abstract:

A report is conducted on the development of a xenograft assay that identified human brain tumor initiating cells that initiate tumors in vivo. The identification of brain tumor initiating cells provides insights into human brain tumor pathogenesis, giving strong support for the cancer stem cell (CSC) hypothesis as the basis for many solid tumors and establishes a previously unidentified cellular target for more effective cancer therapies.

Cancer: New fronts in an old war

Article Abstract:

Three new angles on cancer research and the contributions they promise towards fighting the dreadful disease are discussed. Researchers are trying to develop detection tests for early cancer diagnosis, develop drugs aimed at cancer stem cells in order to prevent the recurrence of tumors, drugs that target cancer cells spot-on, and improve preclinical trials of drugs on animals to ensure their success when tested on humans.
