Impact of natural and artificial barriers to dispersal on the population structure of bobcats

Article Abstract:

Population structure and genetic diversity for bobcats (Lynx rufus) in Michigan, USA, which are distributed throughout the upper peninsula (UP) and the northern peninsula (LP) of Michigan, were examined. The statistical package STRUCTURE identified one population in each peninsula, showing that the UP and LP are genetically isolated by the Straits of Markinac which divide the UP and LP, and indicating no fragmenting genetic effects of roads on bobcats.

Does continuous removal of individuals separate high- and low-quality ricefield rats?

Article Abstract:

The demographic characteristics of ricefield rats removed with trap barrier system (TBS) and of residents sampled in area with and without a TBS are compared. Comparison is made to determine whether TBS remove mainly residents or dispersers and if continuous removal will separate high- and low-quality individual.

Calibrating statistical population reconstruction models using catch-effort and index data

Article Abstract:

The calibration of population reconstruction models using combination of auxiliary catch-effort and index data which could be used to estimate and monitor trends is game abundance is illustrated.
