Increased summertime heat stress in the US

Article Abstract:

Mean summertime temperatures in the US have increased over the past half century, and with high humidity, humans can experience heat stress. Increased mean summertime temperatures are expected to be accompanied by an increased amount of days with extremely high temperatures (T). Upward trends in heatwave frequency are significant in the eastern and western regions. The trends could be linked to increased urbanization, but it is suggested that their origins are not strictly local.

Falling satellites, rising temperatures?

Article Abstract:

Global warming research shows that satellite technology provides similar atmospheric temperature measurements to alternative methods when 'falling-satellite' effects are accommodated in estimate calculations. The assessment of microwave sounding units using National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration polar-orbiters is described. Evidence suggests that global warming is taking place.

How accurate are satellite 'thermometers'?

Article Abstract:

The recent estimate by Hurrell and Trenberth that lower-tropospheric temperatures measured by satellites are inaccurate when compared with measurements from weather balloons is contradicted by a new study. Comparisons of measurements provided by tropical radiosonde stations and satellites show that inconsistencies are essentially non-existent.
