Influence of socioeconomic inertia and uncertainty on optimal CO2-emission abatement

Article Abstract:

Environmental research indicates that greenhouse-gas emission targets should influence early action in reducing harmful carbon dioxide emissions to minimize future damage to the environment. Deferred action will also damage economic prospects for developing nations due to the added cost of socioeconomic inertia in energy systems. The characteristics of optimal global emissions scenarios and strategies are given.

Elastic turbulence in a polymer solution flow

Article Abstract:

Viscoelastic fluids with non-linear mechanical properties do not obey the same rules of turbulence as simple, newtonian fluids. Research reveals that the typical properties of turbulence may be observed in an elastic polymer solution despite low velocity, high viscosity and a small tank size.

Turbulence without inertia

Article Abstract:

New evidence suggests that classic features of turbulence can occur in fluids with minimal intertial forces. Viscous polymers with high elasticity can produce so-called 'hard elastic turbulence'.
