Requirement of pointed-end capping by tropomodulin to maintain actin filament length in embryonic chick cardiac myocytes

Article Abstract:

The pointed-end capping of proteins is necessary for maintenance of the lengths of thin filaments and for contractile activity in embryonic chick cardiac myocytes. Microinjection of tropomodulin inhibitors in chick cardiac myocytes produces elongation of the actin filaments from their pointed ends. The control of the length of the actin filament is required for proper motility of cells, the regulation of which is done by capping proteins. Tropomodulin acts as a capping protein for the pointed end of the actin filament.

Optimal nitrogen-to-phosphorus stoichiometry of phytoplankton

Article Abstract:

A stoichiometrically explicit model of phytoplankton physiology and resource competition is used to derive from first principles the optimal phytoplankton stoichiometry under diverse ecological scenarios. The model predicts that optimal N:P ratios will vary from 8.2 to 45.0, depending on the ecological conditions.
