Article Abstract:

Several researchers teamed at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) Olympics, a workshop held at CERN that studies fake data to explore unproven theories, to prepare real data expected to emerge from one of the biggest experiments in physics. That experiment is the LHC, a collider under construction in the tunnels beneath CERN, which would test some of the most cherished theories of physics.

Oscillatory dependence of current-driven magnetic domain wall motion on current pulse length

Article Abstract:

A demonstration that the motion of domain walls under nanosecond-long current pulses is surprisingly sensitive to the pulse length is presented. In particular, it is found that the probability of dislodging a domain wall, confined to a pinning site in a permalloy nanowire, oscillates with the length of the current pulse, with a period just a few nanoseconds.

Article Abstract:

The atomic force microscopy (AFM) has revolutionized the way material scientists study surfaces, however, it has proved harder to apply AFM to study delicate biological molecules. Physicist Bart Hoogenboom and his team hopes to change this by finding new means to study minutest delicate molecules without damaging the samples.
