Loss of Forest Cover in Kalimantan, Indonesia, since the 1997-1998 El Nino

Article Abstract:

Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MODIS) was used to map Kalimantan, Indonesia forest cover. Findings show that more than two thirds of deforestation occurred in existing and proposed protected areas, suggesting that alternative conservation strategies, including timber certification, are required to adequately protect forest habitat.

Academia as a nursery ground for conservation biology

Article Abstract:

The frightening rate of forest loss in Indonesia and other tropical forests across the globe is discussed. The academia plays an important role in developing capacity among appropriate target groups in conservation biology.
