MAPK-mediated bimodal gene expression and adaptive gradient sensing in yeast

Article Abstract:

A combination of switch-like and graded pathway responses is described that has led to stochastic phenotype determination in a specific range of pheromone concentrations. The responses are found to be critically dependent on mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK)-mediated regulation of the activity of the pheromone-response-specific transcription factor, Ste12, as well as on the autoregulatory feedback of Ste12.

Structural basis of protein phosphates 1 regulation

Article Abstract:

The coordinated and reciprocal action of serine/threonine (Ser/Thr) protein kinases, and phosphatases protein kinases and phosphatases produces transient phosphorylation. Protein phophatase 1 (PP1) is ubiquitously distributed and regulates a broad range of cellular functions, including increased myosin specificity of the complex.
