Male - male vocal interactions and the adjustment of song amplitude in a territorial bird

Article Abstract:

A study on seven male nightingales, Luscinia megarhynchos, is conducted to find the relation between the sound level of the song birds and social influence. The male nightingale's vocal interaction and song amplitudes used as signal transmission improved to a large extent during conspecific male - male interactions.

Pattern amplitude is related to pattern imitation during the song development of nightingales

Article Abstract:

Research is presented concerning the importance of song intensity in the development of song in oscine birds such as nightingales. The ontogenetic trajectory in the singing of nightingales which were hand-reared is discussed.

Song repertoire size is correlated with body measures and arrival date in common nightingales, Luscinia megarhynchos

Article Abstract:

Heavier body weight and longer wings are positively associated with larger song repertoires in common nightingales, as is earlier arrival in a given territory. Implications of song repertoire and male quality are discussed.
