Mate choice in a hermaphrodite: You won't score with a spermatophore

Article Abstract:

A study of the reproductive systems and peculiar mating behavior in the marine slug, Aeolidiella glauca, a simultaneous hermaphrodite, is presented. The Aeolidiella glauca's peculiar choice of mate is that the sperm donor avoids a recently mated partner to reduce its risk of being subjected to sperm competition.

Sexual selection in a simultaneous hermaphrodite with hypodermic insemination: body size, allocation to sexual roles and paternity

Article Abstract:

The effects of body size on mating patterns, egg production and paternity in Alderia modesta, a sperm-storing, hermaphroditic sea slug with hypodermic insemination are investigated. The functions and the consequences of hypodermic inseminations are discussed.
