Biodiversity hotspots in the Mediterranean basin: setting global conservation priorities

Article Abstract:

Three approaches that can be used to define priority conservation areas in the Mediterranean basin are described. The Mediterranean basin is extremely biodiverse, with 10% of the world's higher plants residing in an area representing 1.6% of the Earth's surface.

Selection of islands for conservation in the urban archipelago of Helsinki, Finland

Article Abstract:

A technique for selecting lands for conservation is described. All plant species on 207 islands off the coast of Finland were tallied and 41 islands were chosen that contained one of each species.
