Molecular structure in an instant

Article Abstract:

The measurement of the image molecular structure with a temporal resolution less than a femtosecond is presented using an intense laser field to tear an electron from a molecule accelerate it and then drive it back towards the molecule a fraction of an optical cycle later. The electron recombines with the molecule, giving up the energy it acquired as a single, soft X-ray photon in a process known as high-order harmonic generation.

Seeing the light

Article Abstract:

An Aurora provides a natural laboratory for physicists investigating the complex interplay of electromagnetic waves and ionized particles in plasmas other than being a visual treat for the Earth's latitudinally advantaged residents. Such observations often raise many questions about the processes involved.
