Monsoon rains start to ease India's drought

Article Abstract:

The heatwave in India which killed 1,400 people in May, 2003 is abating with the arrival of the monsoon rains. But the researchers warn that the monsoon rains may not put the end to the environmental crisis created by the heatwave, as monsoons are unpredictable and can lead to the resumption of the drought conditions.

India pledges deluge of funds to water plan

Article Abstract:

A massive water project that would integrate most of India's major waterways has been approved, with the vision of providing clean water to each Indian citizen by 2016. It would link thirty-seven rivers through a maze of thirty canals, the plans for which are being firmed up.
