Mountains to molehills

Article Abstract:

The TerraSAR-X mission can take the images of any given spot on the Earth and researchers from Germany and the U.S. will use these images to study wave heights, wind stress and air-sea fluxes off the coast of Florida and in the Southern Ocean. Marine scientists are interested in the data provided by TerraSAR-X on the properties of features such as crops, ice crystals or ocean waves.

Advice on nuclear safety set for update in wake of floods

Article Abstract:

Experts from 16 countries gathered to discuss whether international safety standards for nuclear plants in flood-risk areas, need to be modified, after the wake of Hurricane Katrina in the US and tsunami in India. They believe that the flood protection is easy if one can come up with correct safety marines for specific sites taking in account all the proper factors.

The world's growing vulnerability to natural disasters like Indian Ocean tsunami and Kashmir earthquake that have wreaked havoc on the planet in the year 2005 is assessed. As the risk for these disasters is increasing in future so are the preventive measures like the forecast of storms or earthquakes or rehabilitation of the suffered.
