Nanosecond radio bursts from strong plasma turbulence in the Crab pulsar

Article Abstract:

The Crab pulsar emits giant radio pulses, which are so far unexplained, but new studies have found isolated, highly polarized subpulses within the giant pulses. The source of the subpulses is likely smaller than 1 meter in size, according to researchers at New Mexico Tech and the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Socorro, New Mexico, and the source is probably the result of the collapse of plasma-turbulent wave packets in the pulsar magnetosphere.

Volcanically emitted sodium chloride as a source for Io's neutral clouds and plasma torus

Article Abstract:

Jupiter's satellite Io is largely made up of sulfur compounds, but Io is also surrounded by a cloud of sodium. Chlorine has also been found in Io's plasma torus, and researchers in France, Spain and the US have now found NaCl in Io's atmosphere. The NaCl probably comes from volcanic gases.

Sodium at Io

Article Abstract:

The Jovian moon Io has sodium in its atmosphere, and new research indicates that it derives from sodium chloride emitted by volcanoes.
