Neanderthals and the modern human colonization of Europe

Article Abstract:

The study determines whether the mitochondrial DNA evidence recovered from the Neanderthal specimens is sufficient to indicate that the Neanderthals belonged to an entirely separate biological species from modern humans. The research suggests that the roots of this dramatic population's replacement can be traced for back to events on another continent, with the appearance of distinctively modern human remains and artifacts in eastern and southern Africa.

The Polycomb group protein EZH2 directly controls DNA methylation

Article Abstract:

The functional relationship between Enhancer of Zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) and DNA methyltransferase is probed. The results suggest that EZH2 is required for DNA methylation of EZH2-target promoters and EZH2 serves as a recruitment platform for DNA methyltransferases, thus highlighting direct connection between two key epigenetic repression systems.

DNA triplet mediate heterochromatin-protein-1-sensitive variegated gene silencing

Article Abstract:

The relatively short triplet-repeat expansions found in myotonic dystrophy Friedreich's ataxia confer variegation of expression on a linked transgene in mice. Silencing was correlated with a decrease in promoter accessibility and was enhanced by the classical position effect variegation modifier heterochromatin protein 1.
