Wilful public misunderstanding of genetics

Article Abstract:

The furor over a recent report linking a genetic characteristic with male homosexuality demonstrates only that the public does not understand genetics. The report is unconfirmed and the link is tenuous, nor does the gene sequence appear in all homosexuals studied. But the press has hyperbolically exploited the story without giving sufficient weight to its caveats and uncertainties.

The endless search for accelerators

Article Abstract:

The Brookhaven National Laboratory demonstrated that reversing the Cerenkov effect would lead to particle acceleration, suggesting that the need for more exploration to find new ways of accelerating particles to high energy. Experiments in particle physics should aim at providing high energy through individual particles that are controlled with accuracy.
